Summer Solstice in New Mexico – A Kundalini Yoga Journey Back to the Heart
New Mexico is a place that continuously calls me back to its ancient, raw, and sacred high desert landscape. My journey here began in 2015 when an undeniable inner calling to teach Kundalini Yoga led me away from multi-year European programs and straight into an intense, immersive 4-week teacher training at the mother Ashram. That experience—marked by 3:00 AM wake-ups, cold showers, and profound internal shifts—completely transformed my life. Today, returning to New Mexico has become an annual pilgrimage to participate in the Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration, a 9-day global gathering featuring intense White Tantric Yoga designed to clear subconscious blocks. This text serves as a reflection on that journey, detailing how stepping away from daily life to live and practice simply allows me to refill my own cup, so I can continue to serve and hold space for others.
New Mexico is calling.
And for me, it keeps calling—again and again.
There is something about the high desert of New Mexico that feels ancient, raw, and deeply alive. Vast skies, dry air, mountains in the distance… and a silence that somehow speaks louder than anything else. It’s here, in this sacred landscape, that my Kundalini Yoga journey found one of its most profound expressions.
Where It All Began
My Kundalini Yoga journey started long before I ever set foot in New Mexico.
In 2015, I felt a strong inner calling to become a teacher. Not a gentle nudge—more like a deep, undeniable knowing. Like many, I began searching online. Germany offered many beautiful trainings, but most stretched over two years. At that moment in my life, I knew I was about to move to South Africa. I needed something immersive. Something now.
And then I found it:
A 4-week immersion in New Mexico, at the mother Ashram connected to the teachings of Yogi Bhajan and the 3HO community.
I booked the flight. I said yes.
And everything changed.
Life in the Ashram: Breaking and Becoming
Imagine this:
Waking up at 3:00 AM.
Sleeping on an air mattress in a tent.
Cold showers in the dark desert morning.
Dressing in white, head covered, walking in silence under the stars.
By 3:40 AM, Sadhana begins.
Two and a half hours of meditation, chanting, breathwork, and kriyas.
It sounds intense—because it is.
But it is also one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.
You meet yourself there. Fully.
Your childhood wounds. Your adult patterns. Your fears. Your truth.
You learn to breathe through discomfort.
To sit with yourself.
To guide yourself—and eventually others—through challenge and transformation.
And then something shifts.
Your heart opens.
Your frequency lifts.
Joy appears… not as something external, but as something that has always lived within you.
For four weeks, I lived in what felt like a bubble of love—a conscious community, a Sangat, where strangers become mirrors, teachers, and lifelong friends.
Leaving was not easy.
But something inside me knew: I would return.
The Magic of Summer Solstice
Every year, something extraordinary happens in the mountains of New Mexico.
The global Kundalini community gathers for the Summer Solstice Sadhana Celebration—a 9-day immersion in practice, connection, and transformation held at Ram Das Puri.
People come from all over the world. Different languages, different stories—yet one shared intention: to grow, to heal, to remember.
The days are simple, yet powerful:
- Early morning Sadhana under the stars
- Kundalini Yoga and meditation classes
- Sacred music, chanting, and connection
- Seva (selfless service)
- Living close to the earth, unplugged from daily life
It’s a return to basics. A reset. A remembering.
You camp. You eat simple vegetarian meals.
You let go of distractions—and in doing so, you begin to hear yourself again.
White Tantric Yoga: Deep Inner Work
At the heart of the Summer Solstice are three days of White Tantric Yoga.
This is not your typical yoga class.
It is a powerful group meditation practice designed to clear subconscious blocks and bring deep mental and emotional release.
You sit in pairs, often for extended periods, guided through specific meditations.
It can be challenging.
It can be confronting.
And it can be profoundly liberating.
Something shifts in those three days—something words can’t fully capture.
Why I Keep Returning
For me, this journey has become a ritual. A pilgrimage.
Once a year, I return to New Mexico to:
- Reconnect with myself
- Recharge my energy
- Sit in community
- Remember why I teach
Because holding space for others all year requires depth, clarity, and grounding.
And this… this is where I refill.
It’s not a holiday.
It’s not always comfortable.
But it is real.
It is honest.
And it is deeply healing.
A Sacred Pause
There is something incredibly powerful about stepping away from daily life.
No distractions.
No constant doing.
Just being.
Waking up at 3 AM.
Praying. Chanting. Moving.
Eating simply. Living simply.
And closing the morning together in prayer in the Gurdwara, right after Sadhana—sealing the energy of everything you’ve just moved through.
Eating simply. Living simply.
You meet friends.
You meet yourself.
You meet the Kundalini tribe—your Sangat.
The Call
New Mexico is not just a place for me.
It is a feeling.
A remembrance.
A home I return to—not physically, but spiritually.
Each time I leave, I carry something back with me:
More clarity.
More softness.
More truth.
And a deeper capacity to serve.
If you ever feel the call—listen.
Because something in that desert…
just might be calling you home.
